Wicken Fen Community Engagement

Local Consultation

July – August 2019

What are we asking you about?

The team at Wicken Fen are planning to launch a new community engagement project in 2020.

Before we develop our plans further, we’d like to ask a few questions to understand more about what’s important to you.

We’re particularly keen to hear from those who live or work near Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire; though everyone is welcome to take part. Your responses will help to shape our project.

The consultation closes on Friday 16th August 2019.

Why are we planning a community engagement project?

We have three main aims:

  1. Enabling nearby communities to connect with nature, conservation and heritage through recreational activities.
  2. Raising awareness of the Wicken Fen Vision[1].
  3. Listening to your views about the Wicken Fen Vision, what it means to you; and how you may wish to participate.

We want people to enjoy recreational time, volunteering, learning and creative activities both at Wicken Fen and in your own communities.

Most of our activities are currently based near our Visitor Centre: general visitors, school and community group visits and events.  We would like further activities to take place away from the central hub area (in the wider nature reserve) and in surrounding communities.

Have your say!

What activities would you like to be involved with that Wicken Fen can help make a reality? We’d like to offer opportunities for physical activities such as walking or cycling, volunteering, finding a quiet space to think and relax your mind; learning about nature, discovering local histories and much more.

By using Wicken Fen in ways that matter to you today, you will be playing an active part in protecting it for generations to come.

Your views about how to involve local communities in Wicken Fen’s story are important to us.
