Job title: Principal Specialist in Marine Conservation and Management

Job description: Technical/professional leadership

Contract duration: permanent, full-time

Salary: £50,000 - £58,000 depending on skills and experience

We are looking for an experienced, qualified and proven leader to manage the Centre’s strategy on marine and coastal biodiversity. The current priorities for the Centre’s strategy to support the transition to a healthy ocean are focused on spatial data of biodiversity relevance, ecosystem service assessment, decision support tools and areas beyond national jurisdiction. Maintaining close and effective relationships with the Senior Management Team, you will participate in the Centre’s strategic planning and will lead the development of a portfolio of projects in line with this.

The role is global in remit and requires engagement with the international ocean science-policy-society community. The role is framed by the UNEP-WCMC Strategy and Business Plan which places the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean as an organisational priority. As Principal Specialist in Marine Conservation and Management you will lead fundraising efforts and partnership building to support this priority.

You will hold a postgraduate qualification (MSc or higher) in a relevant discipline, such as natural, biological or environmental sciences, and have experience in managing and analysing marine and coastal biodiversity information with the aim of informing conservation management and policy decision making. A strong track record in fundraising together with good organisational capacity, interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate a team towards a common objective are also essential.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can impress us with your leadership, drive and teamwork, we want to hear from you.  To apply, please complete a WCMC application form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter by 2nd April 2018.
