MPhil in Conservation Leadership Alumni and Communications Coordinator, University of Cambridge

Application Deadline:
5 Apr 2018

Applications are invited for the position of MPhil in Conservation Leadership - Alumni and Communications Coordinator, in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge.

Founded in 2010, the MPhil in Conservation Leadership is a flagship professional Masters programme offered by the Department of Geography, in collaboration with the 5 other University departments and 9 conservation organisations that comprise the Cambridge Conservation Initiative. The MPhil admits experienced wildlife conservation professionals and provides them with applied leadership and management training as well as cutting edge multi-disciplinary teaching.

The MPhil admits around twenty students each year, and has a growing network of alumni (now over 140 from over 70 countries). These alumni are already achieving senior leadership positions in conservation. The alumni have the potential to be a tremendous resource to the MPhil and to each other, but at present there is no strong platform in place to exploit this potential. There are also limitations in the current MPhil communications outputs.

The new Alumni and Communications Coordinator role has been created to tackle these challenges. Reporting to the MPhil Director, the Alumni and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the creation of a new alumni network platform, suitable to meet the needs of alumni and the MPhil. The Coordinator will also lead the improvement of the MPhil in Conservation Leadership communications and marketing, including the course website, social media profile and other communications content (e.g. videos and newsletters).

Excitingly, in late August / early September 2018, most of the MPhil alumni will be gathering in Cambridge for a unique three day reunion event. This will provide an ideal opportunity to strengthen the alumni network, generate communications content and make plans for future alumni relations. The Alumni and Communications Coordinator will play a key role before, during and after the event, ensuring that maximum value is derived from it for the future of the alumni network.

Candidates must be educated to at least A Level or equivalent. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a positive approach to problem solving are essential. Applicants should have experience working in alumni relations, and in a communications role, coupled with proven ability to meet time sensitive individual and group deadlines, as well as managing your own workload. Experience working within HE or similar research environment is desirable.

This is a 2 year, part-time post of 22 hours per week. The post will be based in the spectacularly refurbished David Attenborough Building in central Cambridge, which provides space for all the Cambridge Conservation Initiative partner organisations.

The Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
