Marine Conservation Advisor, Papua New Guinea

This post is for someone with a knowledge of issues in tropical developing countries to provide strategic oversight of and technical support for its marine conservation program in Papua New Guinea. The position requires strong tropical marine science and coastal fisheries expertise, extensive management and program development experience and a genuine commitment to the mission of WCS. 
 
This position is responsible for the strategic oversight of and technical support for the WCS PNG Marine Program in all areas of program development and implementation. Current program implementation priorities include: collaborative development of marine spatial plans within PNG coastal waters; development of community-based fisheries management and climate adaptation plans; strengthen management of LMMAs; monitoring of coastal fisheries; improving coastal livelihoods; and community outreach and awareness of marine conservation issues. The position reports to the PNG Country Program Director and works closely with the PNG senior management team, PNG marine program team, WCS Melanesia Regional Director and the global WCS marine program in New York. The position oversees all technical assistance to the program, strategic research activities, and maintains appropriate communication with WCS project leads, key donors, funding agencies, local government institutions and NGO partners.

This position is based in Kavieng in PNG and requires significant travel within PNG and also some travel internationally.
