Internship Opportunity - UNEP-WCMC, Cambridge
Internship Opportunity - Policy Support Tools Intern (ITN041)
CONVENTIONS AND POLICY SUPPORT | Fixed term, full-time,
Unpaid for experience
Closing date: 2017-08-15
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join the Conventions and Policy Support Programme. This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or postgraduate student to gain experience in some of the work under way at the global level to support the increased use of science and other forms of evidence in policy development and implementation.
UN Environment-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to promoting for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interpreting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions.
The successful applicant will undertake research that will help to inform the further development of the catalogue of policy support tools and methodologies which is being developed by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). The internship will help us address one of the four functions of the IPBES, that is to support “policy formulation and implementation by identifying policy-relevant tools and methodologies, such as those arising from assessments, to enable decision-makers to gain access to those tools and methodologies and, where necessary, to promote and catalyse their further development”. The catalogue of policy support tools and methodologies aims to facilitate access by decision makers to policy support tools and methodologies, and to provide guidance on how to promote and catalyse their further development.
The internship will involve populating the catalogue with information on policy support tools and methodologies of relevance to IPBES based on already developed templates, including undertaking relevant background research, as well as supporting the development of material aimed at promoting and facilitating the use of the catalogue.
The intern will be mentored to help prepare them for a job in environmental policy research and development, and will have opportunities to learn more about international governance.
If you are interested in this exciting opportunity please send your CV and a short covering letter by clicking on the link below by 15th August 2017. Please note, no application form is required for this post.
Interviews will be held the week commencing 21st August. The internship will start on 28th August 2017, for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Please note this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
