Internationally the RSPB supports NGO partners in the BirdLife International network to implement successful national conservation programmes and ultimately achieve self-sufficiency. This position is to manage the RSPB's BirdLife Partner development programme in several countries in sub-Saharan West Africa, initially Sierra Leone and Liberia, where the RSPB supports large-scale tropical forest conservation programmes. The role will include partner support, organisational capacity building, fundraising, conservation project management, and advocacy. You will need to have extensive experience of working in developing countries with NGOs, and skills in organisational development. You must be able to work under minimal supervision and have excellent diplomatic, communication and negotiation skills. You will be expected to spend a significant number of nights and weekends overseas each year, the majority of which will be unaccompanied.
The post holder will be a member of the RSPB's Partner Development Team and participate in establishing its objectives and achieving its goals. The role may require providing support to other activities of the Partner Development Team, the International Directorate, the wider RSPB or BirdLife International upon request. The post requires regular reporting to the RSPB, external policy makers and donors.
Candidates should have experience living, working and managing conservation projects implemented through NGOs in sub-Saharan Africa. Good knowledge of NGO governance and administration essential. Ability to speak French an advantage.
This post will be based in Sandy, Bedfordshire, so ability to work in the UK is essential.
