BirdLife International is seeking an experienced, highly motivated candidate for the role of Chief Development Officer. This person will ideally be based in Cambridge, UK.
BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership, comprising BirdLife International, a global secretariat and regional network, and 121 BirdLife Partners worldwide – one civil society organisation per country – and growing. It has more than 13 million members and supporters. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.
The Chief Development Officer will report directly to the CEO and will become an integral member of the Management Team. The CDO will lead BirdLife’s global fundraising team to ensure that all areas of fundraising at BirdLife, including trusts and foundations, institutions, corporations, and individuals, both at the global and regional levels, have a clear strategy and are well supported. The position’s initial focus will be to structure and develop the fundraising function of BirdLife, initially developing BirdLife’s strategy around “high net worth” individuals in big fundraising markets including but not limited to the United States and Europe.
The Chief Development Officer will also lead BirdLife’s communication and marketing teams ensuring strong collaboration and coordination between the three teams.
Our ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of leading fundraising teams and campaigns particularly in relation to high-net worth individuals and will exhibit excellent leadership skills with a collaborative, supportive and empowering style of people management. Demonstrated ability to develop fundraising strategies unifying team skills and energy, to and empower teams to prioritize and achieve goals, and strong project management, prioritization and planning skills are essential. Experience in both corporate and non-profit sector is desirable.
The ideal candidate will have substantial work experience and proven leadership skills in the area of fundraising, communications and marketing.
