CCI/CCF Public Engagement Coordinator (Fixed Term), Cambridge, UK.

Application Deadline:
27 Feb 2019

Cambridge is a major centre of knowledge and expertise in the conservation of nature. We are offering an exciting opportunity to play a major role in supporting two unique conservation partnerships to engage the public in conserving the natural world.

The Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge and leading biodiversity organisations in and around Cambridge. The CCI partners combine and integrate research, education, policy and practice to create innovative solutions for society and to foster conservation learning and leadership. The CCI collaboration is managed by a small secretariat of executive staff, employed by the University of Cambridge Judge Business School and based in the David Attenborough Building.

The Cambridge Conservation Forum (CCF) connects the diverse community of conservation practitioners and researchers working at local, national and international levels based in and around Cambridge. CCF facilitated the formation of CCI and consequently they have a close, complementary relationship. CCF continues to convene an extended informal network of 70 conservation organisations and over 2,000 individuals, acting as a focal point for networking and information exchange through regular meetings, events, its newsletter and website.

CCI and CCF are now seeking a Public Engagement Coordinator to increase public awareness of conservation issues by developing and delivering an expanded programme of local, national and international events. The role holder will work with colleagues from CCI and CCF to support the development of a strategic approach to public engagement that aims to communicate the importance of biodiversity to the wider public and to catalyse behaviour change. Furthermore, the Public Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in helping CCF to facilitate networking, knowledge exchange and extended collaboration within the wider constituency of conservation organisations in and around Cambridge.

This position will be based in the David Attenborough Building in central Cambridge.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, the ideal candidate will be experienced in all aspects of delivering public engagement events to a high standard. Experience of working as a member of a collaborative team is essential, while knowledge of the not-for-profit sector would be useful. The ideal candidate will be highly organised and efficient, with good attention to detail, and excellent project management, writing and editing skills. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without compromising on quality is a prerequisite of this role.

This is a fixed-term position and the funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 27 February 2019, and interviews will take place on the 6th or 7th of March 2019.
