BTO, Ecological statistician, Thetford, Norfolk

Application Deadline:
24 Nov 2017

Full time, permanent position

(£30,926 rising to £34,362 after two years  + pension)

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) is one of the world’s leading avian research organisations and is involved, often in collaboration with others, in a broad spectrum of ecological, applied and monitoring projects. We are a major custodian of wildlife data, with datasets that are both extensive in space (e.g national bird atlases) and time (many schemes have been in place for 50 years, or more). Although our focus is bird populations in the UK, we are working with others on a growing international programme and developing research into taxa other than birds. The BTO is seeking an innovative statistician with good communication skills to contribute directly to the design and analysis of projects and to provide statistical advice and guidance to projects across the organisation, in collaboration with people having a range of statistical expertise and backgrounds.  The post holder will develop and implement new statistical techniques applicable to the BTO’s datasets within an agreed work programme, and will be encouraged to develop their statistical interests in areas that are of relevance to the BTO.

Candidates should have a PhD in statistics or a related subject (or equivalent experience) together with a good track record of relevant research.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 1pm on  Friday 24 November.
