As last year, the University's ESRC Doctoral Training Centre is inviting proposals for Knowledge Exchange Studentships. This is a great opportunity to develop a project with a University colleague in the social sciences.
This route enables University Departments to develop projects involving knowledge exchange between the student and an external, non-academic organisation(s). A contribution towards costs is expected from the collaborative partner, up to a maximum of 50% of the total costs of the studentship (approx. £36k for a 3-year studentship). This can be negotiated with the collaborative partner on a case-by-case basis.
Examples might include:
- dedicated training funds for the student
- contribution to fees or stipend
- enhanced stipend (if justified)
- contribution to DTP training costs
A specific allocation of a KES under this route would require a minimum contribution of £5k p.a. Partners may also contribute in-kind support including access to materials, logistics, field support etc.
Only Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) Departments may nominate for KES, but partner Departments involved in the collaboration can be drawn from outside the DTP network.
Deadline for proposal submission: 23 October, 2017.
