TAA Hugh Bunting Memorial Lecture: ‘Climate Risk Management in Sub-Saharan Agriculture

This annual public lecture, co-hosted by TAA and the University of Reading, School of Agriculture, Policy & Development, will focus on the risks to small farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa resulting from climate change and other factors, and the means to mitigate them. The lecture will take the form of four short presentations by people specialised in assessing risks from the climatic and farming side and in provision of insurance for farmers. These will include (i) Olga Speckhardt - Head of Global Insurance Solutions - Syngenta Foundation, will speak on index-linked crop insurance and AcreAfrica work; (ii)  Rosalind Cornforth - Director, Walker Institute - Reading University; (iii) Peter Dorward - Leader of the PICSA Programme - Walker Institute - Reading University. This will be followed by a panel discussion. The event will be chaired by Dr Andrew Bennett CMG, TAA President. The programme will commence at 17.30, with a networking meeting, followed by a welcome at 18.30 by Professor Julian Park, Head of School. The Hugh Bunting Memorial Lecture event will commence at 18.40. The evening will conclude with a wine and finger buffet,19:40 – 21:00. Members, spouses and friends are welcome.

A separate afternoon tour of the University’s 'Museum of English Rural Life' is being arranged for TAA members and friends. This is located on the University's London Road Campus.
