Following Invisible Dust's involvement at the Calouste Gulbenkian's The Ocean Connects Us event, Sounding The Sea is an exciting opportunity to continue the dialogue, and strengthen our collaborations.

The symposium includes thought-provoking talks, workshops, performances and film screenings, including Professor Alex Rogers (University of Oxford), Dr Magnus Johnson (University of Hull), Professor Callum Roberts (University of York) and Jo Ruxton (Film Producer, Plastic Oceans) among others. It will also include curator tours of our exhibition Offshore: artists explore the sea at Ferens Art Gallery and Hull Maritime Museum.

Authors China Miéville and Philip Hoare, poet John Wedgwood Clarke, artists Alec Finlay, Bik van der Pol and Mariele Neudecker, to name a few, will discuss a wide variety of topics such as: the critical importance and health of our oceans with climate change, catastrophes such as tsunamis and earthquakes, bioluminescence and deep sea marine life, Hull’s maritime history, marine plastics, rising sea level and our myriad of cultural connections to the sea.
