Screening of 'This Changes Everything' for Sierra Leone Emergency Flood Relief
Inspired by Naomi Klein’s international bestselling non-fiction book, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change. The film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.
This screening is being organised to raise money for communities impacted by the recent flooding in Sierra Leone, with all money from ticket sales (except the Eventbrite fee) going directly to Street Child's Sierra Leone Emergency Flood Relief Appeal. Following the horrific landslides and torrential rain that hit Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, on 14th August, more than 400 people are known to have died, some 600 people are thought to be missing and about 3000 people are homeless in what is being described as a humanitarian emergency. Street Child has been working with these communities since it was established in 2009. Donations will go towards helping Street Child's team in Sierra Leone to provide emergency relief and long-term recovery support to these communities.
