CCF Oliver Rackham Memorial Guided Walk, Hayley Wood
Oliver Rackham Memorial Guided Walk through Hayley Wood. Booking is now open for this free event and everyone is welcome so do book soon to ensure you don't miss out.
Hayley Wood is famous for its spring carpet of rare oxlips, abundance of bluebells and wood anemones and other less showy ancient woodland species. It is site of special scientific interest and managed by the Wildlife Trust for Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
We have been privileged over past years to be joined on our CCF working parties in Hayley Wood by world renowned ancient woodland expert Professor Oliver Rackham.
The condition of wood itself is one of Oliver's very many legacies after he reintroduced the ancient woodland practice of coppicing there over 50 years ago. We are holding our annual guided tour as a memorial walk celebrating Oliver's legacy where everyone can hear about the management of the wood and see the flowers.
Our expert guides Richard Dowsett and Louise Bacon will lead the walk and we hope to be joined once again by ancient woodland specialists and enthusiasts. We will be inviting everyone who would like to do so to share their memories of Oliver either informally with each other or with the whole group as we walk around the wood.
Everyone is welcome to come along whether you've been on our working parties or not and whether you know the wood really well or this will be your first visit.
We hope to offer lifts from Cambridge, meet at UNEP-WCMC just off Huntingdon Road at 4.20 or at Hayley Wood at 5pm. .
Booking is now open via Eventbrite so we can gauge numbers for the walk and to ensure we have enough cars to offer lifts. Here is the link to book: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ccf-oliver-rackham-memorial-guided-walk-spring-2018-tickets-44196138841
