CCF Events

Following a great run of events tackling a challenging project, we invite you to join us again for our next mapathon!

This month, we will be doing something different and will be undertaking a new project for the Key Biodiversity Area Secretariat. The project is to assess and score the quality of KBA boundaries with respect to features observed on Google Earth and existing protected areas. In order to do this we will be teaching you some basics of using QGIS with Google Earth imagery so please arrive on time.

Each mapper will be allocated a country to check the KBA boundaries systematically in QGIS (all training will be provided!), scoring each KBA in turn (criteria to be distributed at the event).

Please arrive at 6pm and expect to be with us for a minimum of two hours. Pizza will be provided for participants!

QGIS is a user friendly Open Source GIS. No previous experience required. Just come along with your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop and we’ll get you mapping the most important places on the planet for biodiversity conservation!
